"Don't worry," Joe told her comfortingly. " They strolled on, then paused. " Not more than a hundred feet away, a big buck had stepped into a clearing. He stood poised for a few moments, then away he bounded, with a flip of his tail. "This is really getting exciting," Joe said in admiration. " They were on a trail winding down the other side of the ridge.

The bridal party was seated on the proper chairs. When the first hymn was announced, Joe and Arie followed the bishop and ministers upstairs to one of the rooms, to be instructed and counseled in the basics of Christian Eheschtand (marriage). Downstairs, the melodious volume of singing filled the rooms, the old slow tunes rising like a sweet chorus, touching the families' and the guests' hearts with gladness. When the music drifted through the register to the counsel room above, Joe and Arie's hearts, too, were stirred with joy.

This dark little room lacked cheer and homey warmth. Oh, well, maybe the other rooms would make up for it. Bravely she swallowed her disappointment. The lady let them explore the house on their own and went back to her work. Much to Arie's disappointment, the other rooms were also small and poorly designed. A big hall ran through the center of the house. Joe said, "Maybe in a few years we can knock out some of these walls and put in folding doors so we can have church services in here. " Arie nodded her head.
