37 CHAPTER 5 Sharona Opts for a Fighting Unit Sharona spent a lot of time thinking about what she wanted to do in the army. She was a good athlete and had studied ballet and jazz since she was little. She thought she’d have a good chance of being accepted into the pilot’s course, now open to women, but she knew she didn’t want to spend the required seven years in the army. Ultimately, she wanted to be a doctor, and that would require many years of study after she finished her military service. 38 Sharona knew she didn’t want a desk job.
