In all cases, the resultant experience is that the interpretation was useless or even destructive. Criticism of any kind, before a good rapport is established (which can take a very long time), may result in the patient's abrupt termination of therapy. 56 Unfortunately, this feeding of a person's narcissism is a seductive approach that often keeps narcissistic characters in therapy for a long time, with little transformation.
